Art Exhibit: Gender X
Emporium Wines & Underdog Café, Yellow Springs, Ohio
Gender X is an exhibition of gender queer art and story. The goal of this showcase is to bring transgender stories to people who would normally not encounter them in an attempt to increase understanding, combat ignorance, and replace the harmful stereotypes supplied by transphobic media and politicians with truth.
About the Artists Artist, writer, activist, and poet Iden Crockett works with mixed media, digital media, and photography to create intensely personal pieces of art. Her words and her pictures tell the story of her experience as a first responder, her journey through ptsd, depression, and the discovery of her identity as a transgender woman.
Blair Bell is a fiber and textile artist from the Dayton area whose delicate crochet work reclaims traditions long dismissed as "women's work," finding beauty in what others overlook.
Dravyn Lenore Rosendahl creates work that she describes as a window to her soul, channeling the colorful and unsettling corners of her queer subconscious into art that demands to be seen.
Nicki Graeling is a graphic designer, philosopher, and drag performer whose stream-of-consciousness digital collage work carries a dark whimsy that's equal parts cartoon, ghost story, and punk show.
Come see it. These are stories worth knowing.
