Emporium Wines & Underdog Café, Yellow Springs, Ohio

My work is based in exploration and play, and I’m currently finding joy through the lines and forms created through blind contour drawing (drawing with one continuous line while looking only at the subject, not the drawing) This allows me to study the shape and relationships between forms; a deep looking process. There is something playful about the end result; the way the intersecting figures and distorted faces come together is always a surprise. Many of the paintings start with self portraits; others are of family, having them make silly faces to further the distortions created. We need moments of play and silliness, especially when times are hard. I hope you find a moment of joy in what I’ve created.
